Helena Norbert Hodge 2017

Author of Ancient Futures, producer of Economics of Happiness, my favorite documentary. And she's organizing workshops around the US and the world on the Economics of Happiness, exploring the implications of globalization and advocating for localization.

Rough Notes:

We need to maintain human scale and create support structure.

We need a system analysis to understand the effects of globalization

Global trade is a new form of colonization

We need to re-establish a chain of connection

Dangers of monoculture

Monsanto and GMO's play a big role in monoculture

There is a developing global effort to support localization and local structures.

Via Campesina (way of the farmer) is a localization movement with over three million people, in many nations.

The New Economy

Instead of talking about a world market, we need to talk about millions of markets.

We need a WEO World Environment Organization instead of a WTO

I asked if there are specific laws, regulations, etc. coming out to support local.

She responds giving the example of Italy's Five Star movement and its founder Beppe Grillo (there's a special about him on Netflicks now.)
