I initially downloaded the app through the Itunes store and immediately found difficulties in learning how to work with it. Instagram is widely popular free internet application that allows users to tweak their own photos with easy to use digital camera filter effects. They can then post these edited pics to any social media or simply the Instagram site which doubles as a social network. Photo sharing is a very common internet activity and Instagram is very useful relevant and practical when following this trend. My problem in the beginning was locating a device and a method to go about using the application. After some studying and help forums, I became more familiar with it and found it to be fun and exciting.

When a user has Instagram on a device, they can begin adding photos from
the internet or photos they have personally taken and saved on their
device, phone, computer, etc. The way it works is that it takes the
concept of digital photography editing and simplifies it from the old
and more tedious methods which require a little more training and adept
knowledge of photo editing, into just clicking a virtual button. Each of
these buttons that the user scrolls through represent different digital
editing camera effects. When one is selected, the desired effect is
applied to the photograph. These editing filters range from black and
white effects to vintage look effects. For example, I uploaded an
amusing picture of my friend from college giving a thumbs up. I picked
the 70's filter and applied it. This made the picture look older. It was
fun and most of all, took very little time to do.

When I first downloaded the app, It did not register through google or my
mytouch smart phone. It  stated that I did not have a device attached. I have a high
quality camera built in to my mac book so this did not make sense to me. I scanned the internet for help forums and advice and became more aware of the process of working with this application. I found out that this app works best and almost seems to be exclusive for mac products. The app can be used through google play or an apple device such as the iphone or itouch. I remembered that I also had an apple itouch device with the itunes app store built in. This device made everything much easier and made understanding the use of Instagram simpler. Once I put the Instagram app on my itouch, everything began to run smoothly. I found out that for instagram to work for me, I had to take the initial pictures with my mac book's camera, my phone camera or simply take other already saved pictures on my computer and move them to my itouch device. From there I could use Instagram on the itouch to tweak these photos and finally, post them to social media.

Overall, I think this app could not be more relevant to the digital age. apart from information sharing, photo sharing definitely dominates the internet activity. Most people on the widely popular sites facebook and twitter share their instagram pics there. It has taken an activity that was once for a limited crowd of people and made it a universal staple that even the most average internet user with limited photo editing experience can work with and understand. It makes sense that it is so popular because of its practicality. Now anyone can be a photographer on the internet in a way. This is also plays into social media giving the illusion of self importance. I do however look forward to editing more photos in the future and sharing them with my friends. This is an application that I will definitely return to.
